Justification

The species Chlorophyllum agaricoides has been recorded at 6 sites with 7 finds, in various habitat types that face an array of threats (logging, agricultural activities, fires), which is the reason why it has been proposed for the category of vulnerable – VU.

Population

Current population trend

Stable

Description

In N. Macedonia, the population size is minor. During the field survey, around 20 fruit bodies were observed. The number of individuals in the population is estimated at less than 50.

Habitat and Ecology

System

4 Grassland
4.4 Grassland – Temperate

Habitat and Ecology

Chlorophyllum agaricoides is a terricolous species, preferring grassy habitats like meadows, pastures, lawns, gardens or open grasslands in forests. The species fruits in autumn. In agreement with the current data, in our country it occurs in open areas in oak forest and poplar plantations, and also in meadows and pastures.

Use and trade

Use and trade

There is no confirmed use and trade of this species in N. Macedonia.

Threats

Threats

Habitat loss/degradation triggered by farming, industrial and household pollution.
Habitat loss/degradation caused by logging.
Forest fires, more common due to climate change, may be the other major threat.

Conservation actions

Conservation actions

Study of the population numbers and range; enhanced understanding of the species biology and ecology; conservation of habitats; regular monitoring.
The species may be protected by conservation of its habitats (meadows and pastures) and via prevention of forest degradation and by conservation thereof.
This includes avoiding intensification of logging practices in autochthonous oak forests or poplar plantations and also in the adjoining areas. Active prevention of forest succession and erosion is recommended. Designating key sites for protection is proposed.
